Not goodbye, au revoir

THE nice thing about having your own party is being able to look around the room and recognise everyone there – especially when they are all there for you. Such was the case with Graham Edmiston last week when he celebrated his retirement as chairman of A Bilbrough & Co, managers of the London P&I Club, at Trinity House, in London.

After thirty years with Bilbroughs, including the last seven as chairman, Graham is handing over to Paul Hinton, who paid gracious tribute to Graham for his "fundamental role in the club's history." But, as Graham pointed out, retirement doesn't mean he will be disappearing like a magician. Far from it. He is now looking forward to his new consultancy role, marketing the club and its services around the world.

Graham thanked all those he has worked with over the years, who have contributed to what he described as the club's 'distinctive style'. "No doubt the club will continue to go from strength to strength," he added.

No doubt it will, and it will always owe a debt of gratitude to Graham Edmiston. The turnout at Trinity House was the sort you only get for well-connected and popular people. Longevity can be accumulated. Respect is earned.
