NEW York-based Eaton & Van Winkle has appointed five new partners. Warren A Kirshenbaum, Vincent J McGill and Ted G Semaya have joined the firm as partners, while Matthew S Cohen and Maura Murphy, who already work at the firm, have also become partners. The new partners advise on a wide range of legal matters including corporate law, property law, finance, litigation, arbitration and mediation, insurance and real estate.
UK P&I Club
EFFECTIVE October 1, Christopher Brown is the new Asia Pacific Regional Director of the UK P&I Club. Based in Hong Kong, Brown is responsible for providing services to all of Thomas Miller's managed clubs. Brown joined Thomas Miller in London in August, 2001, and has since been travelling regularly to meet the club's members in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Norway. He has extensive experience of claims and P&I management, having spent twelve years with the Gard P&I Club.
J W Pinedo Associades
Mexico-based law firm J W Pinedo Associades, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, has welcomed a new member to its team. Walter Pinedo Jr joins the firm having obtained his degree in Master of Laws in Admiralty from Tulane University.
Ignacio de Ros
BARCELONA-based law firm Ignacio de Ros Maritime Advocates has welcomed a new member to its team. Maria Cecília Cavalheiro Lima, known as Cecília, is training at the firm while studying for a masters degree in business law in Barcelona.
Brazilian-born Cecília graduated in law from Paulista Univerity in 1996 and was admitted to the Brazilian Bar Association in 1999. She specialises in maritime matters as well as company and fiscal law. A fluent Spanish and English speaker, in addition to her mother tongue of Portuguese, Cecília is also learning Catalan.
Merricks and Fairmays merge
MERRICKS LLP, which has five offices throughout the UK, and London-based Fairmays Solicitors, have merged. According to Merricks, the move is part of its strategy to offer a broader service to its clients. "Fairmays' prestigious offices and extensive UK and international client base will complement our network of commercial clients across the country," says Michael Lambert, chief executive of Merricks.
"Both firms have a first-class reputation for the quality of their legal services, and the merger presents us with an excellent opportunity to broaden our services and accelerate our existing plans for expansion," adds Andrew Miller of Fairways. International trade and transit will be covered by the commercial litigation team, which is headed up by Tony Guise.
