NORTON White is one of three independent legal practices formed following the demerger of Norton Smith & Co, the oldest law firm in Australia. Borden Elliot
NIGEL Frawley has joined Toronto-based law firm Borden & Elliot as counsel. Nigel has practised maritime law in Toronto since 1972 and is the immediate past-president of the Canadian Maritime Law Association.
Sinclair, Roche and Temperley
STRUAN Robertson has been appointed senior partner at Sinclair, Roche & Temperley. He succeeds Harvey Williams.
Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, SRT has made Susan Macnaughton a partner. Susan specialises in international trade and shipping disputes.
Insolvency specialist and corporate litigator Anthony Hill has also joined the Hong Kong office. Anthony was formerly a partner with Robert W H Wang & Co.
Swedish Club Greek Committee
THE Swedish Club has established a new forum for its Greek membership, The Swedish Club Greek Committee. The new body will provide an additional voice for the club's Greek members, particularly young shipping executives holding senior positions. Stefanos Lekanidis, of Dileship, is the new committee's first chairman.

CONSTANT & Constant has opened an office in Le Havre, headed by Jerome de Sentenac, who joined the firm as a partner earlier this year.

Clifford Chance, London, has appointed Nicholas Robinson as a consultant. Nicholas was the former head of Herbert Smith's shipping practice and brings with him senior assistant Christopher Jay and his entire client base.

SHAW & Croft has appointed two new lawyers. Ernesto Rollandi will help the firm develop shipping and marine insurance work for the Italian market. And Rob Walker, who joins from Lawrence Graham, will strengthen the firm's growing practice in the CIS and Baltic States.

NICOLA Gare has joined the London office of Merricks Solicitors. Specialising in shipping litigation, she will assist marine department partner Mariel Monk.

Grammenos degree
PROFESSOR Costas Grammenos OBE has been awarded the highest academic accolade for his published work in shipping finance. On May 19 at London's Guildhall, Costas received the degree of Doctor of Science. The award also recognised his role in founding the Department of Shipping, Trade and Finance at City University in 1984 and the design of MSc courses in Shipping, Trade and Finance, and Trade, Transport and Finance.
Barcelona Maritime Bar
JOSEP Fossas (president), Josep Lluis Pons (vice-president), Ignacio de Ros, Ricard Jaime, Laura Badenes, Carmen Aguilar and Laura Maniega have been appointed members of the Committee of the Section of Maritime Law of the Barcelona Bar. Josef Bertran is secretary.
