French and Belgian MLAs meet

IN Paris earlier this month, the French and Belgian Maritime Law Associations met to discuss issues arising from "The passage of cargo through ports".

Representatives from the ports of Antwerp, Le Havre and Marseille, together with shipowners and lawyers, shared their views and experiences. Subjects under discussion included technological developments in France which have created new methods of communication which could lead to greater procedural clarity. It was also reported that, in Antwerp, difficulties have been encountered with the fenceless open-air port storage area and as a result of the refusal of port operators to take responsibility for cargo in transit.

The meeting provided the opportunity for both MLA presidents - Françoise Moussu-Odier and Wim Fransen - to advocate more such meetings on a regular basis to discuss matters of common interest to both associations.
